The study of natural hybridization can facilitate our understanding to the potential adaptive mechanisms of evolution and the process of speciation. Hybridization is particularly prevalent in rapidly diversifying taxa such as\u00a0<em>Rhododendron<\/em>. This large, long-lived woody plant genus has undergone recent rapid adaptive radiation.
