Thereby presenting an opportunity to develop predictive linkages between biodiversity, ecosystem functioning and global change in freshwater systems. In this talk, I will present recent work on large scale trait-environment relationships (TER) of freshwater plants and demonstrate how general TER, freshwater unique adaptations, and across-realm linkages all structure the functional biogeography of freshwater biodiversity.
