Abstract:
Plant invasions outside their native ranges pose serious environmental, economic, and human health impacts. Consequently, why and how the spread of invasive plants may change in the future has stimulated considerable interest, in particular in the context of ongoing climate change. I will report results from some case studies on the mechanisms of alien plant invasion from below ground. We will that both plant-plant interactions and plant-trophic interactions are important driving the invasion success of alien plants. In addition, global environmental factors could also directly and indirectly (via trophic levels) influence the invasion success of alien plant species. However, such indirect effect is complex. Consequently, more studies testing the indirect effect of global environmental on alien plant invasion are needed.
