Abstract:
Stable isotopes are natural tracers in hydrological cycle, as well as index in paleoclimate reconstruction. Variations of precipitation and vapor water isotopes have been discussed in the Asian monsoon region. This talk includes the intra-seasonal to inter-annual variations of water isotopes and the underlying mechanism involved, in particularly, how the large regional atmospheric circulation involved in the observed precipitation isotope signal. The vapor isotopes are critical in understanding the linkage between precipitation and vapor interaction, as well as the different moisture sources contribution to the atmosphere in large regional scale. The evapotranspiration in the monsoonal alpine ecosystem in Yunnan pine system are also presented here with another focus on the water usage strategy by needles in raining season.
