Abstract:
Lianas are a common woody growth form in tropical forests. Having been neglected in forest ecology research for a long time, liana research exploded the last 2 decades. I will give an overview of liana related research that I was involved in the last decade including the response of liana communities to disturbance, phylogenetic patterns in communities, germination and regeneration, choice of host trees, wood density and life history, litter decomposition and food webs. Challenges such as identification of leafless stems, research gaps and weekend scientists will be addressed.
