Abstract:
Steven W. Kembel is a Full Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), and Director of the UQAM‑CERMO‑FC Genomics Platform. He obtained his Honours Bachelor’s degree in Botany from the University of Manitoba (1993‑1997), followed by a Master’s and a Ph.D. in Ecology and Environmental Biology at the University of Alberta. He completed his postdoctoral training at the University of California, Berkeley, and later worked as a Research Associate at the University of Oregon before joining UQAM as a full professor in August 2012. His research focuses on host‑microbiome relationships, plant‑microbe ecology and evolution, as well as the microbial communities of preterm infants. He has secured major Canadian research grants, including funds from CIHR, NSERC and FRQNT. Professor Kembel serves on the editorial boards of several scientific journals, such as Ecological Monographs, Phytobiomes Journal, and Methods in Ecology & Evolution. He has published more than 108 peer‑reviewed papers and taken an active role in organizing international ecology and microbiology conferences.
